Public Examination Results 2009
Public examination results this year at St. Columba’s produced a highly satisfying set of results at every level with many notable achievements and some records along the way.
At A-Level, the statistics show that 63% of all results were at A-B level which continues the significant upward trend of recent years. Over a quarter of candidates achieved at least two A grades (several with three) and nearly one-half attained at least one A grade. The overall pass rate was 99.2%. Top performing students were Miles Hamilton, Alex Hope-Rollinson, Alex Mallin, Barnaby Mayles and Harrison Poyser. The picture for university entrance is very good; our Oxbridge candidates gained the requisite grades for entry and the vast majority of students qualified for places at their chosen university.
Lower Sixth AS-Level results are equally impressive and give the students a firm foundation for their final year of A-Level study. Thirteen students gained three or more A grades, with pride of place going to Michael O’Connor who achieved five.
Fifth Form students achieved record results with over 50% of all grades at A* or A, the first time this barrier has been surpassed. The overall pass rate at A*-C was 95%, with 99% of students gaining at least five A*-C passes, again our highest ever. Daniel Johnson gained the mantle of best results with a full set of 10A*, but he was closely followed by Michael Blackwell, Mark Goodfellow, Joseph Maughan, Mark Moore, Rikin Patel and Michael Steel
The Governors, Headmaster and Staff are extremely pleased with the results showing that students are hard working, motivated and well-taught.
