The Parents' Associations

The College has two Associations for Parents: The Prep Parents' Association which is self-explanatory, and the Columban Parents' Association for parents of Senior School students.

What does the PPA do?

St Columba’s has a strong sense of community and the PPA benefits from and builds on this.

Our role is overwhelmingly social – organising social events for everyone to enjoy ranging from the Welcome Barbecue to kick off the year, wine tasting evening, informal coffee mornings, to the Annual Christmas Party. We also arrange fundraising activities involving the boys including the Sponsored Bounce and charity Fun Run.

Many of our social events contribute to our other main role of Fundraising. We purchase extra items for the school which enhance the educational environment for the boys, and which they can enjoy.

PPA Fun Run outside the School

In recent years projects have included enhancing the playground with playground markings & the Long boat; re-furbishment of the Pre-prep library; and Sports and Music equipment. We have produced school tea towels and calendars depicting all the boys self portraits raising valuable funds.

In addition, we run a regular ‘Nearly new uniform’ shop, the Cake stall at the annual Columban Fayre and provide refreshments at school events, plays, prize giving etc.

The PPA belongs to all parents and is always open to ideas and suggestions!

Last Year’s Fundraising

Thank you very much to all those who contributed to the PPA last academic year. Through our various activities and events, we raised £5100 which was spent on a variety of smaller, but much needed improvements for the school including:

  1. Refurbishment of PrePrep library
  2. Colour printer for Pre-Prep
  3. Curtains for the Prep Hall
  4. Sat Navs for school buses
  5. Athletic vests for games
  6. Percussion instruments
  7. Equipment for School Nurse
  8. Donation to Shatima House

Columban Parents' Association

The Columban Parents' Association, otherwise known as the CPA, exists to organise the College social events.

The objectives of the CPA are:

  • To assist the College in enhancing the community spirit
  • To organise events where parents and staff of the College can meet and get to know each other as members of the same community.
  • To organise fund raising activities for projects for the College.

The events on the C.P.A. calendar are

  • The Columban Ball
  • The Sportsman’s Dinner
  • The Ladies Supper Evening
  • The College Discos
  • The Columban Fayre.

The CPA is divided into subcommittees responsible for the different functions. We also rely on a volunteer list of parents willing to help before each event. Many are needed on the disco nights to ensure that the children have a great evening in a well monitored safe environment.

Funds raised have been used to support the sports tours, pay for bike stands, a music system, lacrosse equipment, two digital pianos and screens for the chapel.

The CPA has donated to several charities; the most recent to benefit are Cherry Lodge Cancer Charity, Grove House and The Luke Mackay Forget-Me-Not Fund.
