St Columba's College > Prep School > Pre-Prep and Prep Ministry

Ministry

The College Ministry Team is responsible for coordinating the spiritual welfare of every student. The team is comprised of staff from the Senior and Prep School and is supported by our Chaplain, Father Tim Edgar.

Among the activities organised by the team and key staff in the departments are retreats for each year group; liturgical celebrations at significant points in the school year; times for prayer and reflection; programmes for moral and ethical development; resources for tutors; leadership training and emotional development activities for students as appropriate to their age.

For the 2009-2010 school year, the team will also offer programmes and resources for parents. The team will also be implementing in the Senior department, its new Love, Life & Liberty programme which covers a wide-range of relationship issues, sex education, family life issues, and emotional intelligence training. In the Prep School similar issues are taught through an appropriate developmental programme called ‘A Jouney in Love’.

The Team is committed to developing and supporting the ethos of the school which is founded on the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in the Catholic Christian tradition. This ethos is inclusive of all students, no matter what their faith background. Far from being just tolerated, the different faiths of our students are embraced and explored as part of the wider ministry initiatives.

Parents should feel free to contact the team should they have questions about the spiritual formation of their sons, or if they would like to explore ways in which particular religious traditions can be supported in the College.
