Gap Year: Volunteering for Project Trust

Academic Senior School

On Tuesday 2nd October, Niall Seenan from the organisation Project Trust, spoke to our Sixth Form students about taking a Gap Year to volunteer  for Project Trust.

Since 1967, Project Trust has been organising voluntary placements in Africa, Asia and Latin America for young people. These placements empower the volunteers to be confident, creative, independent and resilient.  The Trust provides all volunteers with training and support before, during and after their time overseas, to maximise both the educational value of their experience and the positive impact they have in their projects and host communities. They return home with broadened horizons, increased maturity and an impressive range of transferable skills. Volunteers can now receive an accreditation of a Level 3 Foundation Year in Global Volunteering and Citizenship.

Those who are interested in taking part in this 12 month  programme have to apply and are then selected. The cost for each volunteer is £6,000, which includes flights, accommodation and a food allowance for one year. The volunteers are expected to fundraise the cost of the trip.
