All Prep School pupils learn French. The weekly lessons are highly interactive and great fun.

They learn to speak and understand French, as well as to read and write the language. Learning about French culture is very much part of the process. Younger boys learn a great deal through songs, rhymes, games and arts and crafts activities that have a French flavour.

As the boys move up the school, they cover a wider range of topic areas. During the year, they practise their language skills with native speakers in a huge range of contexts, including performances, language days and a wonderful French café. The specialist teaching ensures that boys have a real sense of moving into another culture and develop an early love of languages. Prep 6 boys also learn Latin and Spanish, in order that they have had a taste of the work to come as they move on to the Senior School.

To support their French learning, Prep 5 have a four day residential trip to Le Chateau du Broutel in France where they have an action packed few days, visiting a snail farm, typical French market. They also enjoy some outdoor pursuits and a day out at the WW1 battlefields and memorials in the Somme.

The Prep school also runs an annual day trip to Lille.
